Question:
do you know anything about word of mouth marketing as a strategy?

Answer:
Hello! Of course thre are many different "strategies" to get a product or service into a consumer's hands; this one - word of mouth - is a natural happening (as opposed to the contrived strategy of paid advertising in print or other media), and refers to the phenomenon of a customer's normal talking to others about her/his experiences - good or bad - with the goods or services she purchased. So for example, if you moved into a new community and wondered where the very best bakery might be, you might ask your neighbors, and their recommendation (or panning! :-() would be their "word of mouth". "Beaverton Bakery is absolutely the very best!" or "Stay away from Hanks!" might be examples of their "word of mouth" recommendation. As you might imagine, this can have a very powerful effect on a business's success or failure. Realistically, it probably shouldn't be thought of as a "strategy" (which implies a kind of designed approach to marketing by the folks who are *doing* the "marketing") since "word of mouth" is quite unstructured and pretty much out of the marketer's control. Hope this helps!
