i moved to charlotte to get in the banking industry. i tried so many company's in my old hometown so i moved. i have had interviews with three banks and two have turned me down, the other is pending. one was because i forgot to include a job that i had for only a week on my work experience. they said i couldn't apply for 9 months. the morgage bussiness would be another industry i would like to pursue but i don't have a degree. i have been waiting tables so my experience is limited. i feel so insecure now like i'm destined to be a failure.

I work in Human Resources. If you thought banking was tough to get into, trust me that HR is extremely tough and selective.

Moving forward, here are some keys you can use to get into the field you desire. If you have no experience, review companies that are in that industry. If your computer and typing skills are not up to par, get a typing software program and get them there. The reason to do this is call center customer service.

Call center customer service gets a bad wrap from workers and the people who use those services. However, people often do not realize tht call center customer service is a good way to not only transition out of waiting tables, but to also turn that customer service experience into another career.

If you want to work for a bank or mortgage lending institution, look for a customer service job. They are entry level jobs and most of the time do not require a degree. The second benfit to a customer service job is that yo normally can maintain hours that will allow you to attend classes in the morning or evening. I'm sorry to have to tell you. But a lot of companies even want their receptionists to have a college degree. It's crazy, I know.

Two more tips. List all employment. when dealing with sensitive information or materials a 10 year employment check is mandatory. They want any periods of unemployment explained sometimes with documentation. When you do not list all jobs, it makes it look as if you have something to hide (i.e. attendance issues or something even worse).

Second tip. Get your degree!!! In today's business society people want you to have a degree to wash walls. It's sad but true. My mother told me 15 years ago that a bachelor's degree would be today's high school diploma. It is. Mangers are now expected to have a Master's degree either in a business or career-defined field. I know many people with bachelor degrees making no more than $13/hr. So at least get your bachelor's degree, as it will open more opportunities.
